This rural town of 54,000 is working to make the city’s power structure more inclusive, encourage collaboration between generations and racial groups, and address the root causes of racism. Residents are taking an expansive view of health and fostering connections around such critical issues as affordable housing, workforce development and wealth building, and access to healthy foods.

N.J. Poll Finds Residents’ Wellbeing, Demographics Shape Perceptions of Health Inequities

A poll among about 2,500 New Jerseyans by the Eagleton Center for Public Interest Polling at Rutgers University, for RWJF, reveals significant differences in perceptions of health equity.

Maria Ramirez (mom), Galilea Pulido (2 month old baby), Estobon Pulido (8 years old) and Leonardo Pulido (2 years old). The mission of Family Focus is to promote the well-being of children from birth by supporting and strengthening families in and with their communities. They help parents gain confidence and competence as the primary caregivers and educators of their children. They provide parents and their children with critical resources and learning opportunities to encourage healthy development in their communities.

Acenda Awarded $1 Million Grant to Launch New Jersey’s First Public Health Institute

RWJF awarded a two-year, $1 million grant to Acenda, a statewide nonprofit organization based in Glassboro, to serve as administrative, operational, and strategic home for the development of New Jersey’s public health institute.
