Alexander Maro, associate general counsel, joined the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) in October 2018. With his extensive experience in financial services and investment management, he provides critical legal review of intricate Foundation investment documents and other legal and financial reports. He views his work as “employing my legal background to support the Foundation’s mission in building a Culture of Health.” In addition to working with the Foundation's investment portfolio, Alexander serves as a legal representative for several of the Foundation’s areas of programmatic focus.
Alexander came to RWJF from a position as senior associate with Dechert LLP, a global specialist law firm based in Philadelphia. His work focused on financial services matters and advising clients on managing private funds. He also provided expertise in regulatory and compliance matters. Earlier, he served as an associate with the investment firm Seward & Kissel LLP of New York, where his work involved providing legal expertise in financial services and corporate finance. Early in his career he served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Noel L. Hillman of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
Alexander earned his Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School, and his BA in Politics from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
A native of Haddon Township, N.J., he currently resides in a neighboring town with his wife, an educator and math administrator, and his children. In addition to spending time with his family, he also enjoys distance running, including marathons, and logged at least one mile daily for 1,600 consecutive days.
